Weekend Workshop

Two workshops are held each year for all levels of student from beginner to advanced. The workshops usually take place on a Saturday in February and October each year.

Each day is split into two - 10:00am to 1:00pm for all students to learn and to practise the hand forms and applications, and 1:30pm to 4:30pm for all students to learn and to practise any weapon form and weapon applications.

March 2026

The first Wutan workshop of the year was well attended. The morning session started with The Eight Strands of Brocade followed by the Short form, focussing on feeling the movement from foot to hand. This was developed further by taking the same format into the practice off two peron Sticking hands. The afternoon session followed through by putting the same theory into a number of applications. A very enjoyable day was had by all. Looking forward to April and World Tai Chi day.

Chinese New Year Banquet

2026

As always the food and service at the Edinburgh Rendezvous was second to none. Everyone had a fantastic time with plenty of banter and much laughter with new friends all in all a fantastic night out looking forward to next year's banquet.

Summer Course

There is a summer course held each year for all levels of student from beginner to advanced. Outdoor and indoor facilities are available in the beautiful countryside, 11 miles South of Edinburgh, with easy access, on a main bus route.

2025

The Wutan summer course this year running from 1st - 5th July had very good weather. We had to go indoors for the last hour on only one of the days. The rest of the week was great, though breezy. Students of all levels from beginner to advanced attended the week with some students attending for one, two or three days. Much was covered from Chi Kung through the Hand Forms, Pushing Hands, Applications and Weapons. Time was taken to answer questions on all of the above. A detailed discussion was held on Chi energy from pre-natal to post-natal and how it is absorbed by the body to be converted and used in everyday life. The week never seems like a week because it passes so quickly. Not to worry we still have next year to look forward to. Hoping to see you all then.

World Tai Chi Day

This is a charity event which is a free session for all who attend. Anyone of any ability can come, so why not bring some friends with you who would like a taster of Chi Kung and Tai Chi Chuan. We collect for a charity each year, in 2022 it will be for Worldwide Cancer Research.

2025

On World Tai Chi Day, the Wutan club this year was collecting for Worldwide Cancer Research and as always, the students were only too happy to take sponsor sheets a week or two before the event. On the day everyone brought in their sponsor sheets with the money they had collected and what a fantastic amount was raised no less than £900. This was collected by Neil and Rachel on behalf of the World Wide Cancer Research team. Neil gave an explanation of how the organisation worked and how the money would be used. James also received a certificate plus a hand written card signed by the members of the team which was shown to all the classes who took part in collecting such a fantastic amount. As a club we are all looking forward to next year's World Tai Chi Day.
